Uneven load shedding distribution is unacceptable

Residents are up in arms because of the Govan Mbeki Municipality’s “unfair” load shedding schedule that constantly plunges some areas into darkness, while lights burn uninterrupted in Secunda.

Anger is mounting among Govan Mbeki Municipal residents of the Secunda outlying areas.

The areas are Kinross, Evander, Trichardt, Charl Cilliers, eMbalenhle, eMzinoni and Bethal.

These residents are up in arms because of the Govan Mbeki Municipality’s “unfair” load shedding schedule that constantly plunges some areas into darkness, while lights burn uninterrupted in Secunda.

They are extremely upset over the fact they get load shedding twice a day, as on 26 July for example, while Secunda had no load shedding at all.

We can only make conclusions that this is due to Sasol.

They help the Govan Mbeki Municipality with money as was reported in a local newspapers.

The municipality also received a generator of nearly R1-million from Sasol.

Hopefully one day Sasol will realise that their workers also live in the other towns that do not benefit from their contributions at all.

My second conclusion is that maybe more managers of Govan Mbeki Municipality live in Secunda?

Residents pointed out on a Whatsapp group that Secunda is less shed during the evenings and not twice a day.

This was confirmed by Secunda residents.

Secunda’s outlying areas are calling on the municipality to devise fairer load shedding schedules.

This uneven distribution is completely unacceptable.

The municipality needs to re-work the schedule to achieve a more equitable distribution and potentially better energy-saving outcome for all areas.

Secunda is not the only town whose industries and commercial business are badly affected.

The outlying areas are mostly small towns with fever jobs and industries that keep the towns running and our top priority in these small towns, is to protect our economy and jobs.

But it is impossible with unfair load shedding schedules.

The municipality is in arrears with its Eskom account, but when you drive around in the small towns, you will see that streetlights are burning 24 hours a day.

Is this the way the municipality saves electricity or is this only a don’t care act?

I just think we are being victimised because we don’t have voices to stand up or speak up to the biggest commercial town in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

We would like to hear what is the response to this letter from Mr Bheki Khubeka of the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
