Goblet Guild enjoys Glen Carlou wines and supports local SPCA

The Goblet Guild, which functions as a non profit organisation, also handed over a substantial financial contribution to the Highveld Ridge SPCA.

SECUNDA – Local lovers of fine wine from the Secunda Goblet Guild, have come together for more than 30 years to enjoy interesting wines, light-hearted humour and an evening of good food and great company.

The Secunda Goblet Guild hosted an evening of wine tasting on Friday, 27 January at Graceland.

The wine estate of choice for the evening was the relatively young Glen Carlou Estate from the Paarl.

Kicking off the evening with three white wines, including wooded and unwooded varieties, and then moving on to three distinctly different red wines, the wines were well curated and even a novice wine drinker could keep up with the tasting master, Mr Pieter Swanepoel, who is the Glen Carlou regional sales manager, and enjoy the experience of top notch tasting.

The guild members were also treated to a special dessert wine named after the previous winemaker of Glen Carlou, Mr Arco (Welder) Laarman.

The Goblet Guild, which functions as a non profit organisation, also handed over a substantial financial contribution to the Highveld Ridge SPCA.

Mr Tim Denny, speaking on behalf of the guild, explained they feel strongly about being involved in the community.

“We all know that the Highveld Ridge SPCA suffered a terrible tragedy during a fire last year and for this reason the guild wanted to donate to the cause.”

Senior inspector Jenneth Geel from the Highveld Ridge SPCA received the donation on behalf of the society and thanked the guild for its support.

“We appreciate this donation. It will definitely lift some of the financial strains that we experience, and it also feels good to know our work is recognised by the community.”

The Secunda Goblet Guild has regular wine tasting evenings and anyone who is interested in joining the guild, can send an email to mariaanchamberlain@gmail.com for more information.
