SECUNDA – After the recent armed robbery at Incredible Connection in the Secunda Mall on 12 August, the police issued safety tips to follow when you are in such a situation.
These are a few simple tips that can potentially keep you out of harm’s way:
* If you are in a passage or mall when robbers strike, go into the nearest shop and stay there.
* Lie on the ground in the shop to get out of harm’s way in case shots are fired.
* Listen to the commands of mall personnel and the emergency crew.
* If you saw anything of the robbery, you are an eyewitness and should give the police on the scene as much information as possible.
* Do not enter the crime scene, as it might not yet be safe, and you can contaminate the crime scene and, in the process, destroy valuable evidence.
* Report the crime as quickly as you can. You can phone 112 from your cell phone to contact the police and ambulance services.
