Cops arrest six for stealing and selling farm butchery’s meat in Trichardt district

“We believe some of their customers include local businessmen who bought the meat at a very low price,” said Const Komo.

TRICHARDT – Trichardt police arrested six people on Monday, 18 February, in connection with the burglary of a farm butchery on Saturday, 16 February.

According to Const Valencia Komo, spokesman for Trichardt Police Station, the farmer who also runs an abattoir and butchery for bulk supply on his farm, Rooipoort, discovered the burglary that Saturday morning.

Meat valued at between R25 000 and R35 000 was stolen from the premises.

The Trichardt visible police and police detectives followed the trail that eventually led to the home of a man living on the farm land.

The police found four bloodied overalls and also recovered some of the meat, but most of it was already sold or consumed.

It appears that a few men broke into the abattoir, stole the meat and then sold it to customers.

“We actually believe some of their customers include local businessmen who bought the meat at a very low price,” said Const Komo.

“At this stage we believe there is a supply chain for the stolen meat, and we are adamant to find the customers also,” she concluded.
