eMBALENHLE – A 51-year-old man is being charged with the rape of a 14-year-old disabled girl.
His arrest came after a teacher of the victim noticed a change in her behaviour and body.
It is alleged that the teacher contacted the victim’s family to find out if they have noticed any change.
Upon investigation, the family discovered that the girl is seven months pregnant.
The victim told them that in October, her uncle called her and her friend.
Upon arrival, the uncle allegedly called the victim into his bedroom and allegedly raped her several times.
Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, called on locals and family to always protect disabled children.
“We urge our people to protect these children.
“Whenever you notice that someone is paying suspicious attention to them, report it immediately.
“We commend the family for reporting the matter because some families hide these matters in order to protect their family members.”
The suspect was arrested and appeared in court on Monday 15 April.
He remains in custody and the case was postponed to Tuesday, 23 April for bail application.
