SECUNDA – Mr Bongezi Gladwin Mdeliswa who allegedly killed Mr Louis van der Hoven (42), appeared in the Evander Regional Court on Monday, 23 March and his case was postponed to Monday, 1 June.
Mr Van der Hoven died on Monday, 10 July in 2017 in hospital after he was stabbed with a knife on Friday, 7 July in 2017.
It is alleged that Mr van der Hoven was on his way to attend an event on the day he was stabbed. He allegedly stopped next to the road between Secunda and Trichardt to give hitchhikers a lift.
Mr Van der Hoven allowed the hitchhikers to ride on the back of his bakkie.
The hikers then allegedly began fighting and Mr Van der Hoven pulled over and asked them to get off his vehicle.
One of the men then allegedly began assaulting a woman and Mr Van der Hoven tried to intervene. He was stabbed in his eye.
Mr Van der Hoven was involved with building projects at Terra Nova in Trichardt and one of the roads at Terra Nova is named after him.
