Cops nab three people from internet cafe in eMbalenhle for producing fake certificates

The building was searched and different certificates were discovered by the police such as doctor’s medical certificates, matric certificates, asylum seeker documents for foreigners, mine operator’s licenses, school reports and even college certificates.

eMBALENHLE – Police closed down an illegal internet café on Tuesday, 16 March.

The cops discovered that it was dealing in suspected fraudulent documents.

This was discovered after a 33-year-old man wanted to certify his Grade 11 school report at the eMbalenhle Police Station’s service centre.

The police official assisting him noticed that the report was not an original document, but scanned in with some alterations made.

The official began to interview the man to determine where he obtained this report.

According to the police, the man then confessed that the report is not an original copy from school and that he had made the report himself.

“On the same day, a 23-year-old woman also visited the eMbalenhle Police’s community service centre with a matric certificate which she wanted to be certified.

“When we checked, it appeared to be a fraudulent certificate,” said Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman.

This information led the police to an internet café at Ext 18.

“The police found two women in the shop. The building was searched and different certificates were discovered by the police such as doctors’ medical certificates, matric certificates, asylum seeker documents for foreigners, mine operator’s licenses, school reports and even college certificates,” said Const Mthethwa.

The police confiscated all documents, laptops, printers and all equipment that was in the building.

A 28-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the internet café, was arrested together with two women, aged 22 and 38 respectively.

They are facing fraud charges and will soon appear before the court.
