The remains of Mr Themba Isaac Vilakazi (54) were discovered in a donga near Vrede on Tuesday, 18 May.
Mr Vilakazi was reported missing in March.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police issued a statement on 19 May, giving some of the details.
Mr Vilakazi informed his family that he was going to Standerton Police Station on 25 March, to meet someone who earlier called him and introduced himself as a police officer.
He then reportedly left home in his Toyota-bakkie. The family reported him missing after they tried unsuccessfully on several occasions to contact him on his cell phone.
Police launched an investigation and made a breakthrough on 18 May, arresting two suspects, aged 32 and 33 in Standerton, in connection with his death.
According to the statement, property believed to be that of the deceased, was found in possession of one of the men.
The other man reportedly pointed out where the body was buried.
Mr Vilakazi’s white Toyota bakkie, with registration number KTC 469 MP, has not yet been found.
The suspects were due to appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 May.
Only Mr Sipho David Tshabalala (38) appeared in court and the case was postponed to 27 May, for a formal bail application.
The suspect remains in custody.
Maj-Gen Thulani Phahla applauded the hard work of the police.
“We are adamant that the investigation will progress well to ensure that justice is served for the murdered farmer.
“We believe the arrests will send a stern warning to farm murderers that we are coming for them.
“We hope the public will continue to give us information on the whereabouts of suspects, so that they too can be put behind bars.”
Police however, are still searching for suspects involved in the murder of Mr Hennie Moldenhaver (58), who was shot.
