Secunda Police warn job seekers to be careful

Do not pay money to be able to work.

SECUNDA – A few residents were caught in a scam on Facebook where jobs at Transnet were advertised.

When job seekers applied, they were told to send their CVs via WhatsApp.

“After I sent my CV, I was called and told to wait at a certain place in Secunda at 1pm for them to send me a SMS,” said one of the job seekers.

“I was then told to pay R2 000 into an account for my medical check-up and then to send proof of payment.”

The job seeker realised it was a scam and now wants to warn other job seekers not to fall for this scam.

“I lost my job during the lockdown last year and I am desperate to find another job.

“These scammers know there are desperate people out here and prey on them.”

The woman reported this scam to Transnet’s ethics line.

Secunda Police confirmed that they received two complaints in connection with job scams this year.

They warned people to be careful when applying for jobs, especially if the company requires money for a medical or anything else before they can begin working.
