Criminals on the lurk at ATM’s in Ermelo

Mr Craven urged the community not to fall for money scams and not to give anyone access to their bank cards or pin numbers.

Criminals stole a bank card from a resident and withdrew R2 000 at an ATM at the Engen Garage, opposite the Game Shopping Centre, in Ermelo on 25 May.

According to information received from Mr Theo Craven, control room operator for ACSU and district manager for the South African Community Crime Watch of the Gert Sibande Region, the criminals were wearing black shirts and one was bald.

Mr Craven urged the community not to fall for money scams and not to give anyone access to their bank cards or pin numbers.

He advised that when receiving phone calls from someone, claiming to be calling from the banks’ fraud department, that people should end the phone call immediately and call their bank to enquire.

“Do not withdraw large sums of money and leave it in your vehicles as there is a high number of theft from vehicles,” he said.

Mr Craven added that the public should not be distracted at the ATM and be vigilant when withdrawing money.

Should residents notice any strange behavior, contact Mr Craven at 081 733 0032.
