Ugandans reappear in court in Secunda
The man says his co-accused tried to poison him inside prison.

The Secunda Regional Court heard the complaints from one of the four Ugandan nationals on July 2.
The four accused, Lydia Mojemba (37), Wilson Seyikabi (49), Jingo Wassua (38) and Njombozi Katiti (46), face different charges, respectively, including human trafficking, kidnapping, rape, attempted murder, illegal abortion and being in the country illegally.
The four were arrested in July 2018 in Ogies after they abducted Mojemba’s niece on July 13, 2018.
Mojemba’s 23-year-old niece, also a Ugandan national, was lured to SA to work for her aunt, who allegedly handed out pamphlets advertising abortion and traditional healer services.

The four kidnapped the niece from her house in Secunda, where she lived with her boyfriend, and performed an illegal abortion on her. Katiti threw the stillborn baby next to the train tracks in Ogies.
The niece escaped from the room where they held her, contacted her boyfriend and fled to Secunda, whereafter the couple went to the police and accompanied them to Ogies where they arrested the four.
Katiti complained to Magistrate Graham Cupido that he was not receiving medical attention in prison, and one of the other three accused tried to poison him.

The assistant head of correctional services in Bethal and a sister responsible for medical matters were in court, and Katiti, representing himself, had the chance to ask them questions.
The sister testified that Katiti has a file with the medical section of the prison dating back to 2020 and that he received his medication monthly.
She further explained the procedure to lay a complaint and said the doctor would visit the prison the following day, and Katiti could see him then and raise his concerns about his medical state.
The case was postponed to yesterday (July 8) and was unfinished by the time of going to print.
