Premier launches programme to fix infrastructure in Standerton

With this initiative, the government aims to tackle pressing socio-economic challenges affecting residents’ lives.

Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu launched the Kubhunya Lutfuli eMpumalanga Programme (KLMP) in Lekwa last week.

The launch took place in one of Standerton’s quintessential streets, Kruger Street, which connects the community to the Standerton Hospital and the Gert Sibande TVET College.

This project launch was followed by the re-gravelling of the road in Ext 8. According to a statement from the Lekwa communications office, the comprehensive programme focuses on addressing the most dire infrastructure needs, including road rehabilitation.

With this initiative, the government aims to tackle pressing socio-economic challenges affecting residents’ lives.

The mayor of Lekwa Local Municipality, Sifiso Mngemezulu, emphasised the programme’s importance, describing it as an integrated approach to infrastructure development and maintenance.

The Lekwa Local Municipality is taking big steps to improve infrastructure.

“This extensive programme is aimed at infrastructure development and its maintenance. It tackles challenges faced by our community.

“Furthermore, the road repairs are expected to bring lasting benefits to residents, improving mobility and safety while stimulating the economic growth of our town,” said Mngemezulu.

The programme continued in the Sakhile area on Palmer Street, where several potholes were repaired. According to Lubabalo Majenge of the Lekwa Local Municipality, the ongoing work is part of the programme’s broader scope to enhance road safety and smoother travel for residents.

During oversight of the work done, MMC for Technical Services Litheko Marago said this step would ensure critical infrastructure is maintained and improved for the benefit of the community.

“The municipality is committed to delivering quality services that will improve the living conditions of our residents,” concluded Marago.
