Standerton’s mayor sends Christmas message to residents

Executive Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu wishes the residents of Lekwa a merry Christmas.

Christmas is getting ever closer and as people from all around the world prepare for this festive season, Executive Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu took the time to wish the residents of Lekwa a merry Christmas.

This is his message:
Season’s greeting to all our residents. The time of the season has arrived where we take stock of the year that was. We will also come together as families to celebrate the festive season. We will use this period to reflect and chant a way for the coming year.

Let us enjoy these holidays and in doing so, we must be responsible so that we can meet again in 2025 with fresh minds and spirits.

Let us guard against alcohol and substance abuse during this festive season, as they often lead to gender-based violence and other social ills that take us backwards as families and society in general.

This is the time for us to share love. It is also a time to remember those who are less fortunate and share with them as well. As Africans, we are known for sharing and caring for one another and let us use this festive to demonstrate this as our true African spirit of Ubuntu.

Both our towns, Standerton and Morgenzon are at the heart of connecting various provinces and this means our roads are very busy during this festive period as many motorists will be travelling through our towns to their various destinations. This means that we must be vigilant all the time when crossing the roads.

All road users (motorists and pedestrians) must always be patient on the roads and this will help in avoiding unnecessary road accidents that may lead to loss of life.

Statistics show that many accidents during the festive season are a result of drinking and driving and drinking and walking. We are losing many pedestrians on our roads and this has to stop, it starts with me and you.

Do not drink and drive. Do not drink and walk on the road. We can only prevent carnage on our roads during the festive season if we change our behaviour and again it starts with me and you.

Let us reach our destinations safely. Lastly, I wish to thank all our employees for their dedication to serving our people. I hope to see all of the safe, sound and energised to double their efforts in 2025.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Thank you.
