Bethal SAPS Captain Maseko receives top award
He feels honoured to have been recognised by the acting provincial commissioner and said he could not have done it without the incredible support of his team, family, and commanders.
Bethal’s Captain Mandla Maseko received the Provincial Commissioner Excellence Award Mpumalanga for 2024 for the Station Commander and Station of the Year Award.
These accolades were bestowed upon him at the Mpumalanga SAPS Service Excellence Awards for 2023/2024 held at the Tshwane University of Technology campus in Nelspruit on December 13, under the leadership of the acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi.
The event was held to show appreciation for the hard work, dedication and commitment of the men and women in serving the public.
Maseko was appointed as the interim acting station commander of Bethal in November 2023 in the absence of the station commander and managed the police station until Lieutenant-Colonel Tseole, who was appointed as the present station commander in September 2024.

Under Maseko’s management and leadership, he led members at the station with wisdom, and the ability to understand and motivate each team member, leveraging strengths and addressing weaknesses in ways that maximize team performance.
He created a working environment in which members working under his leadership, including the community at large, expressed their opinions and ideas openly and bravely without fear of retribution.
“I never expected the awards since there are over 90 police stations in the province, but through hard work, determination, and the team’s efforts, Bethal Police Station has been recognised for its contributions to reducing the crime rate in the province,” said Maseko.
