Father from Standerton hopes for justice for his son
Clement Skhosana will again appear in court on April 23.
Rinus Fourie, a distraught father, still waits for justice after the tragic loss of his son, Mario Iyapian. Iyapian (18) and another pedestrian, Zodwa Patricia Molebatsi (34) died in a hit-and-run on Dr Walter Sisulu Drive on February 4 last year.
The vehicle driver sped away but left a number plate at the scene. Clement Skhosana appeared the next morning at the Standerton Police Station.
According to Fourie, Skhosana already obtained legal representation. After being granted bail at R1 500 in court on March 23, 2024, a lengthy trial ensued.
“At times it felt endless, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” expressed Fourie in a recent telephonic update.
Sentencing for this case is drawing closer but postponed to April 23. Fourie hopes he will receive justice for losing his child.
Community members still remember Iyapian as a hard-working young man with many lessons to learn and a bright future ahead of him.
When Fourie sees a brightly coloured bird, he thinks of the young man’s life and how he loved caring for his bright budgies.
