FOLLOW UP: Discipline camp duo released
The Evander police, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, shut down this discipline camp on April 8.
The Evander Magistrate’s Court has today (April 16), released Mduduzi Shabagu and Samuel Ramohai on free bail and their case was postponed to May 22.
Their arrest came after teenagers were allegedly beaten and starved at a camp that was supposed to help them with attitude problems.
The Evander police, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, shut down this discipline camp on April 8.
The 20 rescued children – both boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 17 – were from eMbalenhle and other provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and North West.
Ramohai managed to escape during the authorities visit to the camp after pretending to be speaking to someone on his cellphone but was later arrested when parents called him while at the police station and told him to come to the police station for the matter to be resolved. He was arrested upon arrival at the police station.
