New Donkerhoek Primary School brings hope

“This is not just another building - it is a promise kept to the people.”

A major milestone for education in Tshwane was reached this week with Donkerhoek Primary School that opened in July with learners from Rayton area.

The school welcomed its first intake of 1 070 learners as the third academic term commenced. Councillor Johannes Bekker paid the brand new school a visit shortly after it opened to monitor progress and engage with staff and learners.

“This school is a long-awaited addition to our community and a true investment in our future. It brings relief to many families who previously had to travel long distances for basic education,” Bekker said.

According to Bekker site for the new school was pegged in March 2024 and construction commenced soon there after as part of the Gauteng Department of Education’s infrastructure expansion plan.

“The rapid progress and timely completion of the school were welcomed by residents, especially as the demand for quality primary education in the area has steadily increased over the past few years,” Bekker added.

Donkerhoek Primary School now serves as a vital educational hub for families in and around the Donkerhoek, Rayton and surrounding rural communities.

Equipped with classrooms, offices, sanitation facilities and learning spaces, the school is expected to significantly improve learning outcomes in the region.

“Parents, educators, and local leaders were involved in the development as a step in the right direction. Many noted the positive economic impact the school had on the area, with job opportunities created during construction and ongoing staff appointments.”

“This is not just another building – it is a promise kept to the people of Ward 100. Our children deserve safe, quality education close to home, and Donkerhoek Primary is a shining example of what’s possible when government and community work together,” Bekker concluded.
