Standerton Hospital gets renovated

The Standerton Hospital has done several renovations over the past few weeks.

Standerton Hospital has recently undergone several renovations, enhancing the quality of care provided and improving patient safety.

According to CEO Nhlanhla Dladla, the Department of Health allocated the hospital an estimated R1.5m as part of its budget for 2025/26.

“We put this money to good use by allocating it towards upgrades that improve the hospital’s ability to ensure the safety of patients,” explained Dladla.

These renovations include erecting a canopy above the security station to help security guards with inspections during the rainy season.

“Previously, we could not search vehicles passing in and out of the hospital while it was raining. Now, the vehicles can be searched according to hospital policy,” stated Dladla.

Other renovations included cutting trees that posed a danger to the hospital’s structure and a complete revamp of the fencing around the hospital. According to Dladla, the hospital enlisted the help of AfriForum to cut trees.

“Several trees on the hospital grounds have become dangerous for walking patients and the structure of the buildings,” said Dladla.

The fencing around the hospital was hazardous to pedestrians walking past the area because it had sagged in several sections. The revamped fence has eliminated the danger.

To ensure the stability of the new fence posts, the next step is to remove the trees directly next to the fence to prevent their roots from negatively impacting the posts.

“The Standerton Hospital is one of only six hospitals in Mpumalanga that is compliant,” said Dladla.

He said the hospital would continue to make improvements to ensure continued compliance.
