Bethal community show up for blood challenge

Blood service gets 452 units of blood.

The local CPF collected 452 units of blood during the last two weeks with its blood challenge. This challenge took place from January 19 to 31 at the donor centre in Bethal.

The CPF invited schools and nursery schools to see which school could get the most people to donate blood.

Laerskool Marietjie van Niekerk was the winning school, followed by Laerskool HM Swart in second and Wonderland Kleuterskool in third.

Jaap Pretorius, chairperson of the Bethal CPF, thanked the schools and the Bethal community for their support.

Dot Prinsloo, donor relations practitioner of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) branch in Secunda, said the 452 units of blood can potentially save 1 350 lives.

“When national blood stocks were critically low, this powerful effort by schools, families, businesses, the Bethal CPF, and the community helped stabilise supplies when they were needed most,” said Prinsloo.

“To every learner, teacher, parent, donor, organiser and supporter, thank you for turning compassion into action and proving that together, we truly can save lives.

“Your care and action helped to stabilise supplies when hospitals needed it most. You turned a tough start to 2026 into a story of hope and unity.”
