Mpumalanga police seek help in apprehending robbers in cash in transit robbery

The heist happened on July 12 on the Leandra - Ogies Road next to Goed Gevonden Mine.

Major General Nico Gerber, provincial head of the Hawks is appealing to the public that anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of robbers involved in a cash in transit robbery that happened on July 12 on the Leandra – Ogies Road next to Goed Gevonden Mine at 17:30 to come forward.

 

 

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, spokesperson for the Hawks, a G4S Cash Solution Fleet Toyota Hino, was traveling from Leandra to the base in Witbank after collections in Witbank, Kriel and Secunda.

 

“At Goed Gevonden Mine the suspects began shooting at the AV with rifles and pistols, forcing it to stop. After the vehicle had stopped, the suspects forced the occupants from the vehicle and disarmed the crew,” said Sekgotodi.

 

The suspects bombed the vehicle with explosives.

 

They then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

 

The following vehicles were used:

– White Toyota Etios with tinted windows.

– Silver Ford Kuga

– Gold Toyota Corolla

 

Ogies SAPS, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Middelburg and the Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Witbank Local Criminal Record Centre and Witbank Crime Intelligence, were summoned to the crime scene.

Major General Gerber said these types of crimes place financial institutions under threat.

 

“It places the communities surrounding these incidents at serious risk. If the public and police join hands, they can end this crime, ” said Major General Gerber.
