Thando Lwazi Makhanye, a Grade Seven learner from Hlobisa Primary School, was the top mathematics achiever in the national South Africa Mathematics Challenge.

The ceremony took place at the OR Tambo Protea Hotel.

Thando was born and raised in Standerton and was honoured to receive this recognition. He said this achievement did not come easily and that discipline, practice, and support from home guaranteed his success.

“I felt proud to get the certificate for being the top learner in mathematics. My parents at home always encourage me to work hard and never give up,” said Thando.

He dreams of becoming a civil engineer and designing buildings, bridges, roads, and systems that communities rely on. Thando’s journey is a true inspiration for learners all over the country to continue studying and working hard to achieve excellence.
