George Sebeloane (21) made his first appearance in the dock at the Secunda Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the abduction and murder of a seven-year-old girl on Sunday.
The little girl’s body was found in a maize field on a farm in the Charl Cilliers area.
Police received a report of a missing child and immediately activated units of the SAPS, including Crime Intelligence, K9 and detectives, to search for the child. The team was joined by private security officers, farmers and members of the local Community Police Forum (CPF).
The search led to the discovery of the child’s clothes dumped near the mielie field.
After his arrest, Sebeloane allegedly led the police to the maize field where the body of the missing child was found.
A few Charl Cilliers community members attended the court proceedings today.
They told Ridge Times that the incident left them in shock and that they wanted to see the person suspected of such a “gruesome” act when he appeared in court.
The case was postponed to March 16 for Sebeloane to apply for legal aid.
