Hoërskool Standerton trio shines at ASA National Championships

The top young athletes from across the country converged on Pretoria's Pilditch Stadium from April 28 to May 2 for the annual South African Schools Athletics (ASA) Championships.

The atmosphere at Pretoria’s Pilditch Stadium was electric from April 28 to May 2, as school athletes and crowds gathered for the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Championships.

For three standout athletes from Hoërskool Standerton, this wasn’t just another meet; it was the culmination of months of gruelling sessions and disciplined training.

Chané Vosloo faced a formidable field in the Girls U19 100m hurdles. In a race where a single clipped hurdle can end a podium dream, her focus was unshakable.

She powered through the heat to secure a remarkable 7th-place finish, proving she belongs among the country’s elite sprinters. On the field, Micke van Vuren stepped into the circle for the Girls U15 discus.

Competing against the nation’s strongest young throwers, Micke demonstrated technical precision and grit.

Her best toss earned her 9th place nationally, a massive achievement for a U15 athlete with a bright future ahead of her.

Meanwhile, Franz Marx took on a gruelling double-duty in the Boys U19 category. Known for its physical toll, the 400m sprint and the 400m hurdles require both speed and immense endurance.

Franz showed incredible consistency, finishing 7th in both events, making him one of the most versatile track athletes in the province.

As the championships drew to a close, the results served as a testament to the talent brewing in Standerton.

These athletes didn’t just compete; they left their mark on the national stage, returning home as inspirations to their peers and a source of immense pride for their school.
