All eyes are on the rugby players of Hoërskool Standerton

He is of the view that this is not only about rugby as such, but about building people who are taught self-respect and discipline.

The council chamber of the Lekwa Municipality was filled on Wednesday, July 27 with rugby players from Hoërskool Standerton.

The reason simply was that they have progressed to the play-offs of the Virseker Cup for medium schools.

Executive mayor, Louis Delani Thabethe, speaker Oliver Phiri, and principal Pierre Marais, were present when the mayor addressed the boys.

Thabethe wished them good luck for the coming matches.

Marais was surprised by the invitation from Lekwa and added that the high school will support the municipality as far as they can.

“We will try to make you proud,” he also said.

He is of the view that this is not only about rugby as such, but about building people, teaching self-respect and discipline.

Thabethe said the chamber is honoured by the presence of the rugby players and added that their spirit hopefully will flow to the council meeting, scheduled for Friday, July 29.

The coaches and captains were also thanked.

The players and coaches were invited to the mayoral parlour for refreshments afterwards.

In search of the trophies, the first team and U/14s competed against Hoërskool Wolmaransstad on Saturday, July 30, while the U/15s travelled to Phalaborwa, Limpopo for their play-offs.
