Teachers from Vukuzithathe Primary School in eMbalenhle celebrate Women’s Month
The event was graced by the presents of a gynaecologist, Dr Phindile Maphosa, who encouraged the educators to look after their health.
The female educators of Vukuzithathe Primary School celebrated Women’s Month on August 30.
Matseliso Mnembe, deputy principal, said educators need to change from being teachers to parents by giving social and spiritual support to learners.
“We come to school with our problems from our homes and learners are also coming with their home challenges.
“Learners are coming from different backgrounds. Some are abused while others go to bed hungry because of their unemployed parents who are dependent on their grants.
“As educators, we have to be able to learn from a child’s face and to dig deep inside his or her heart to find their challenges and to understand and come up with solutions,” said Mnembe.
Mnembe said their work is also a form of healing because learners always keep their minds occupied and they forget about their home problems.
The Women’s Month celebration was also to support one another.
The event was graced by the presents of a gynaecologist, Dr Phindile Maphosa, who encouraged the educators to look after their health.
Maphosa encouraged them to visit a clinic for frequent cancer checkups.
She also told them how to prevent or notice cancer symptoms in its early stages, including menopause and the importance of having a pap smear.
