Dylan Niemand plays hard in his final game for Sasol Secunda Cricket Club

The women’s team also set the bar on Sunday taking on Mkondo Super Eagles and Piet Retief respectively and winning by 210 runs

SECUNDA – Dylan Niemand bid his Sasol Secunda Cricket Club mates farewell with 42 runs and three wickets on Sunday, 10 February.

Niemand played his last game for Sasol 1 who faced the Bethal Bears at Sasol’s home pitch.

Sasol scored 282 runs for four wickets. The Bears were bowled out for 127 runs.

Sasol 1 retained their title as the best in Gert Sibande region with a game to spare.

Dewald Erasmus top scored for Sasol with an unbeaten 113 runs. George Louw scored 73 runs followed by Niemand with 42 runs.

The 36-year-old Niemand said he is retiring from cricket after representing Sasol Club for 16 years and also spending five years with Bethal.

“The highlight of my cricket career was when I captained a team that was unbeatable for the 2014/2015 season, as well as when I played for the Pumas in 2013.”

Mr Ignus Koekemoer, chairman of Sasol Secunda Cricket Club thanked Niemand for his years of service on, and off the field.

“He will still serve as our club manager, main selector and as umpire.”

The Sasol 2 Bulldogs travelled to Ermelo to play Msukaligwa Warriors on Saturday, 9 February.

After being on 108 runs for eight wickets, the tail batted Sasol 2 out of trouble with number 9, Dodds van Zyl (40 runs not out), number 10 Ruhan Delport (36) and number 11 JP Austin with 28 runs, top scoring for Sasol and setting up a competitive score of 221 runs.

Sasol bowled out the Warriors for 144 runs and won the match with 77 runs.

Delport took six wickets after his handy knock with the bat.

Sasol 3 and Sasol Kinross were not as lucky.

These teams missed out on a chance to play in the Gert Sibande Promo T20 finals after both teams lost their semi-finals against Standerton and Bethal Old Boys respectively.

The women’s team also set the bar on Sunday, taking on Mkondo Super Eagles and Piet Retief respectively.

In the first match Sasol bundled out Super Eagles for 62 runs.

Nicolien Janse van Rensburg shined with the ball, taking four wickets for 19 runs in her four overs.

Sasol chased the score down in only 4.1 overs winning the match with 10 wickets.

The Sasol Women scored a massive 261 runs for two wickets in the 20 overs of their second match. Janse van Rensburg scored 149 runs not out in just 74 balls.

Captain Terry Lee Kleynhans scored 50 runs. Janse van Rensburg yet again shined with the ball taking another four wickets and bowling out Piet Retief for 50 runs.

Sasol won the match with an impressive 210 runs.
