Macailin Horne dance and shake to the big prize in Evander

A total of 107 dancers competed in different styles from freestyle, hip-hop, acrobatic, modern and disco dances in different categories like solos, groups, duets and trios.

EVANDER – Julie-Ann’s School of Dance (JSD) recently hosted their annual dance competition at Laerskool Hoëveld.

Macailin Horne was the overall senior winner with 99%, Gizelle Botes was crowned best female dancer and Elmaro Oliphant was the best male dancer.

This annual competition is open to all dance studios, styles and individuals.

They hosted the competition in eisteddfod format which gave all the dancers a chance to shine.

A total of 107 dancers competed in different styles from freestyle, hip-hop, acrobatic, modern and disco dances in different categories like solos, groups, duets and trios.

The following dancers won special awards:

Best costume – Janica Grobler, good flow of music and presence – Kiarah Fourie, graceful moves on stage – Denique de Bruyn, most flexible – Ilze-Mari Homan, working together on stage – Dyaz Ward and Julie-Ann, ‘coolest’ moves on stage – Elmaro Oliphant, best crowd involvement – Macailin Horne, best interpretation of music – Hailey van den Bergh and best themed song – Dyaz Ward.

Elmaro Oliphant was best overall male dancer.

The trophy winners were: 

Macailin Horne – Best Hip Hop Dancer, Jessica Mc Camlie – Best Disco Dancer, Kiarah Fourie and Ilze-Mari Homan – Best Modern Dancer, Ilze-Mari Homan – Best Acrobatic Dancer, Dyaz Ward – Best Open Dancer, Macailin Horne – Best Freestyle Dancer, Payton Pretorius – Most Promising Dancer, Leala Theron – Most Stylish Dancer, Janica Grobler- Best Technique, Hailey van den Berg – Best Personality, Ilze-Mari Homan & Julie-Ann Maudlin and Dyaz Ward & Julie-Ann Maudlin – Best Duet and the best group was awarded to Boss Ladies.

Gizelle Botes, best overall female dancer.
