Question and answer session with Kenneth Venter who will compete in his first rally as a driver

Q: How did you get into rally driving?
A: My father was my inspiration. He did oval track racing at Ermelo show grounds. So I decided to follow in his footsteps so I continue the legacy to do oval track. I got the opportunity to navigate for Wors Prinsloo in some rally events.

Q: When was your first race?
A: The Ermelo Rally will be my first rally as a driver.

Q: What is your best memory and achievement in rally racing?
A: To do the Botswana 1000 in June this year as a navigator.

Q: Since you began, what would you say have you most improved on?
A: I practiced a few times and every lap is an improvement.

Q: Tell us about your car?
A: I drive a Toyota Tazz 1600 20 valve that I bought from a guy in Bloemfontein. It’s an ex-Ettiene Lourens car, he drove for the Toyota Rally Team in the past.

Q: How do you usually prepare for a rally?
A: I try to get as much practice in before the race.

Q: Do you get nervous before a race?
A: Yes, because it’s always an unknown challenge and you never know what is going to happen.

Q: When you are not rallying, how do you like to unwind?
A: I like to do some fishing and hunting.

Q: What is the importance of a navigator?
A: The navigator is the most important part of the rally because a small mistake can ruin the whole day.

Q: How should the relationship between a driver and a navigator be?
A: There must be trust, that is why it is a father daughter relationship. It is our first race, so we just hope for the best.
