Runner from eMbalenhle sets sights on Comrades gold with call for sponsorship

Lucas Jani finished in 76th place with a time of 06:10:11, making him the second-highest placed athlete from Mpumalanga.

Local long-distance runner Lucas Jani (40) is aiming for a gold medal at next year’s Comrades Marathon after an impressive performance in this year’s race, which was held in Durban in June.

Jani finished in 76th place out of more than 21 000 runners, making him the second-highest placed athlete from Mpumalanga. He completed the ultra-distance in 06:10:11.

“To me, this was a great achievement because the Comrades Marathon is not an easy competition. It was also a valuable learning experience,” said Jani.

He has now set his sights on an even stronger performance next year.

“My goal is to finish in the top 10 and proudly represent Mpumalanga and my township, eMbalenhle,” said Jani.

Jani explained that preparing for the Comrades Marathon requires dedication, proper training and financial support.

“Training for the Comrades Marathon requires commitment and resources. I am appealing to the local business community and other interested parties to assist me with sponsorship and the resources I need to prepare for next year’s race,” he said.
