The fourth annual Leandra Half Marathon attracted runners from across Mpumalanga on September 5, with athletes competing for top honours in the 21km, 10km and fun run events.

The race started and finished at Osizweni Special School, where participants took on the challenging routes through Leandra.

Siyabonga Xowana of Masai Athletic Club won the men’s 21km race in an impressive 1:10:00.

Thembinkosi Mavuso (Conquerors AC Mpumalanga) finished second in 1:11:49, followed by Mandla Nkabinde (Eskom AC Mpumalanga) in 1:13:23.

Michelle Horn of Sasol Secunda Marathon Club claimed the women’s 21km title with a winning time of 1:59:26.

Sibongile Hlophe (SAPS Marathon Club Mpumalanga) took second place in 2:06:47, while Polite Makoni secured third in 2:09:52.

In the 10km race, Lebo Makhalemele of Sasol AC crossed the finish line first in the men’s category with a time of 33:18.

Teammate Sifso Twala was just four seconds behind in 33:22, while Innocent Manana (Katlehong AC) finished third in 35:48.

Chrizell Roberts of Nedbank Running Club won the women’s 10km in 44:56.

Ntombizodwa Ncongwane (Evander AC) placed second in 47:36, with Thokozile Mokoena (Red Star Runners) taking third in 49:25.
