DA donates care kits for rape victims in Delmas and Sundra

“We do this in much-needed support of the women of our country and especially women who are victims of rape.”

In the light of August being Women’s Month, members of the Democratic Alliance in Delmas donated care bags for rape victims to both the Sundra and Delmas Police Stations.

Ms Diane Bath, Ms Catherine von Molendorff and young Luke von Molendorff paid a visit to Sundra Police Station on Tuesday, August 10, where they handed over care bags for victims of rape to the crisis centre situated at the station. The station commander for Sundra Police, Capt Linky Olckers, and W/O Welma Kirby received the care bags on behalf of the Sundra Police Station.

“I thank Ms Bath and the team from the DA for their generous and very welcome donation to Sundra Police Station Crisis Centre,” Capt Olckers said.

Ms Bath visited the Delmas Police Station on Wednesday, August 11, where she handed over care bags to the commander of the Delmas Police Station, Col Sipho Sithole.

Capt Carla Hartley, media spokesperson for the stations, and Capt Salomé van der Westhuizen were also present at the handover.

Capt Hartley confirmed to Streeknuus that there is currently a serial rapist active in the Botleng-area and therefore the donation of rape care bags came at a very welcome time.

“We do this in much-needed support of the women of our country and especially women who are victims of rape,” Ms Bath said.

She went on to thank all the people who donated towards the project.
