Electric cable theft in Strubensvalley a concern
Cable thieves target Strubens Valley yet again.

When Ward 97 Councillor Jaco Engelbrecht took the Roodepoort Northsider on a tour of greenbelt areas in Strubensvalley, it was discovered that a cable had recently been stolen.
Fred-Wade Adams from Ye-Sizwe Security Services was also present. He pointed out that the theft must have taken place earlier that same day – 3 July – seeing that the earth was still very fresh.
“The criminals steal these cables and then remove the inner and outer layers to obtain the copper. They then sell this to scrap yards for a very low price,” he said. “And sadly it will cost the city much more to replace this cable than the price at which the criminals sold it.”
Engelbrecht took photos of the remains of the cable and he forwarded it to Solomon Bhengu and Deon de Beer from City Power.
“I requested them to respond to me with a solution because it is clear that every time that cable is replaced it will be stolen again.
“I also informed the Honeydew police station of the matter.
“I still have not had any feedback from City Power.”
At the time of going to print the Roodepoort Northsider had not received a response from City Power.
