Community concerns come to light
Ward committee members discuss serious health and safety issues affecting Northside residents.

Ward 89 recently held its committee meeting. Councillor Ingrid Reinten focused on transport, roads, traffic lights, traffic circles and environmental concerns such as wetlands, open spaces and the mountain in the ward. She also discussed the need for a clinic.
She expressed the importance of the City’s responsibility in communicating their efforts and intentions regarding Ward 89’s needs. Reinten noted good contacts to have are the JRA officials who assist with potholes and trenches. Nicolaas Vermaak is in charge of the depot and can be contacted at nvermaak@jra.org.za.
Willie du Toit does the planning and can be reached at wdutoit@jra.org.za. Vermaak and Du Toit are both based in Hamberg. They cover approximately 1 000 kilometres so it is best to report problems timely in order for JRA to attend to the problems faster, Reinten said. After a two-year wait Ward 89 now has a ward inspector, Alice Maphoto, who works on the fourth floor of the Roodepoort Civic Centre.
Maphoto attends the ward twice a week and can be reached at alicema@joburg.co.za
