The Record can today announce that the City’s slogan, “World-Class African City” finally has been exposed as misleading after resident Steven Haywood laid a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The City’s long-running marketing campaign has been found to be “misleading” and that it “contains blatant lies”.
The final straw for Haywood was a recent radio advertisement that contained phrases such as “a city that is … financially stable”, “electrification of homes” and “a city that continues to create new jobs”.
Haywood’s main argument for blaming the campaign as misleading is the fact the City’s finances had received three consecutive qualified audits and found that the City struggles in every field.
ASA ruled that the commercial must be removed immediately.
The Mayor’s office said that they will appeal the ruling.
