The JMPD seems blissfully unaware of the problems that arose from the new pedestrian crossing on Ontdekkers Road in front of Westgate Shopping Centre.
Residents and Westgate management have been complaining about the pedestrian crossing and the lack of signage around it.
A resident stated that surely it cannot be safe to use a pedestrian crossing without proper signage, traffic lights or a stop street on such a busy road?
Both Edna Mamonyane and Wayne Minnaar, spokespersons of JMPD, told the Record that they were not aware of the situation.
Minnaar pointed out that “there is a department that deals with that” and referred the Record to the Department of Community Safety.
To date the JMPD hasn’t had any complaints or made any public comment about the pedestrian crossing. From conversations it also does not seem like anything will be done about the safety hazard until such comments are made.
The Record requests residents to email their complaints about this specific pedestrian crossing to mathildem@caxton.co.za.
The Record will continue with its investigation.
