A regional meeting was held on 6 February at Clearwater Mall to discuss service delivery issues in wards 85, 89 and 126.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said, “The purpose of the meeting was to speak to the various entities that are involved in maintaining our wards, but none of the entities were present at the meeting. We also invited Metro police but they were not present at the meeting either.”
He explained that the biggest problem councillors face is the length of time is takes for large problems to be resolved.
Ward 85 councillor Carl Mann said that the entities need to communicate more efficiently with the councillors and on a regular basis. “We escalate the concerns and problems in our areas to the entities and we receive reference numbers but we never hear back from them after that.”
The next meeting will be held on 18 February and Tonkin said public participation is vital. “I urge the public to attend the meeting. We will release a time and place where we will meet closer to the time. But residents can contact me if they need more details.”
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar apologised for no officer being present at the meeting. “We had a problem with staff availability but will send out an officer to the next meeting.”
