As the state-imposed lockdown is gradually eased, crime has once more become a daily occurrence.
Lending their resources to the fight against crime is AfriForum’s Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch who have had a busy few weeks in their efforts to promote safety and security in their community. Standing out as a shining example of what active citizenry looks like are two members, DK Khourie and Angelo Leibrant. The pair have not only helped to return a stolen motor vehicle and locate a missing woman, but they assisted with apprehending suspected cable thieves. DK and Angelo caught suspects in possession of roughly R100 000 worth of copper cables and duly handed them over to the authorities.

AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the West Rand, Dewet Ungerer, reminded the public of the value added by concerned neighbourhood organisations, saying, “AfriForum’s Neighbourhood Watch members sacrifice their personal time and resources to help protect the community and support it in times of need. Without the dedication of these people and structures, communities will crumble under the pressure to which criminals subject neighbourhoods.”
Dewet reiterated his organisation’s commitment, stating “AfriForum’s Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch will continue to fight crime in cooperation with the police and other community safety structures”.

He encourages members of the public to join safety structures and organisations, or to contact the local AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch by SMSing ‘Roodepoort’ to 45341 at a cost of R1 per sms.
