The city’s train stations are transforming from areas that once propelled industry to ones that harbour everything that now holds it back.
Large quantities of drugs and copper cables were handed in to police after an intervention by ICE Community Policing Forum (ICE). Just before 11pm, 15 October, ICE patrollers responded to reports of illegal activity at Unified train station. The presence of the community watchdog group spooked those operating in the shadows of the increasingly dilapidated railways.

“On arrival, more than 10 suspects fled through the sewerage tunnels. ICE gave chase but lost sight of them deep down the tunnel intersections. Some copper cables to the street value of approximately R10k or more were retrieved and handed over to PRASA Security,” said ICE founder, Luqmaan Rahim.
Further combing of the scene would lead to the discovery of the makeshift sleeping quarters of one of the suspects. “Cables were found too and by the grace of the Almighty we discovered his secret stash,” continued Luqmaan. Several supermarket packets containing drugs were found as well as a few knives.

All items were handed to authorities but unfortunately, no suspects were arrested.
