Regardless of the campaigns, marches and demonstrations to bring awareness to gender-based violence, the abhorrent assault on the female community continues.
Police are frantically following up any leads after two women were found brutally murdered in a home on Louis Botha Drive on Sunday, 25 October. According to police, the number of suspects is unknown as is any potential motive for the crime. The victims are a 78-year-old woman and her 53-year-old daughter, with both suffering multiple stab wounds.
Based on information given to investigators, the son of the 78-year-old alerted friends to the scene where the women’s bodies were found in a garden cottage on the property. “The case has been escalated to the Gauteng Provincial Investigating Unit and is investigated in line with the police’s commitment to prioritise all cases of gender-based violence and femicide,” confirmed Provincial Police spokesperson, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters.
“Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of the two women, and are looking to establish the motive behind the gruesome incident,” she continued.
Anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators is urged to contact their nearest police station, or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
