The charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) against five security personnel has been changed to attempted murder.
The heavy-set men, who allegedly assaulted a former guard, made another brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 11 November, where the initial charge of assault GBH was turned around due to the circumstances of the incident.
The Public Prosecutor informed the Magistrate about the change in the charge after learning about allegations of discharging of a firearm during the incident.
He then requested a further postponement for the Court to obtain the doctor’s affidavit to determine the injuries of the accused.
The Magistrate then agreed to postpone the matter to 2 December, and warned the suspects to be in court on the said date.
The victim, Goodwill Dladla, 43, who worked for them as a mine guard in Muldersdrift, claimed that he was brutally assaulted after being accused of cable theft.
He claimed that he was shot at five times with rubber bullets at close range and also suffered a broken leg during the vicious attack.
This is a developing story.
