AfriForum continues to fight crime where it matters

AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch, in collaboration will various community groups, held their eighth mass crime-prevention patrol of this year on 23 October.

The never-ending fight against crime begins in the streets and climaxes in the nation’s courts. Not all criminals see themselves eye to eye with a judge, but vigilant community organisations are ensuring that the first step is taken properly.

AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch, in collaboration will various community groups, held their eighth mass crime-prevention patrol of this year on 23 October. Community policing forums, medical responders, private security groups and block watches flooded the streets of Roodepoort to send their monthly message to the lurking criminal elements.

A total of 95 members took part and groups have extended an open invitation to anyone who wishes to add to the numbers next month. “These patrols are important to improve security in the community and to create a safer environment for all. If communities and role players work together, crime can be combated together,” said Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the West Rand.

Hot spots through the area were randomly targeted for inspection, but law-breakers rightfully avoided any contact with the mass mobilisation. No serious incidents were reported and all members returned safely. To join the community force, contact your nearest neighbourhood watch or text Roodepoort to 45341 at a cost of R1 an SMS.
