After the bail hearing of the three G4S Security guards on Wednesday, 11 November, community members have been in an uproar over the outcome.
The three men, facing charges in connection with the murder of Shane Williams and the Florida CIT heist on 30 October, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court to apply for bail.

After hearing their statements, the judge granted each of the three guards R5 000 bail and permission to return to work after a 14-day self-isolation period. This left residents not only angry, but worried as to if G4S would allow the guards to resume their duties.
Renso Smit, Managing Director for G4S South Africa, responded to these concerns in hopes of putting the minds of community members at ease.
Smit stated that, as per company policy, internal processes are being followed within G4S in respect of the three guards. However, he stated that until the conclusion of these processes, the three guards would not be resuming their duties.
The case has been postponed to 18 January 2021.
