A constant state of suspicion is surely adverse to one’s mental well-being. When even someone dressed in a uniform of a respected security company turns out to be bogus, one is left baffled at who remains trustworthy.
A popular clothing and cellular package trader in Westgate was the victim of an armed robbery on Saturday, 28 November. Before the store had opened its doors for the weekend trading, a person dressed in the uniform of a nearby security company arrived at the store claiming to be there to collect money. He talked his way into the store where he carried out the remainder of his plan.
“At 8.05am, the man gained access to the store. He pulled a firearm on the supervisor, and the staff and supervisor where secured with cable ties. The lone suspect then took cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash,” confirmed Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke.
The police are still investigating the matter but Captain Yorke urges all staff to be extra vigilant this December. “Check the credentials of everyone claiming to be an official. Be up to date on any scheduled deliveries and do not let anyone into the premises without them proving their business there,” she advised.
