Fundi completes R100 000 fundraising effort for Primestars
#SavingTheClassOf2020 helps to create awareness of the unique obstacles that this year's matrics have had to overcome.
The accumulation of skills needed to succeed in the world can carry a hefty price tag. Thankfully there is a host of initiatives aimed at funding the minds of the future.
Fundi, a leading financial provider for matriculants looking to study further, held their 12-for-12 relay race at Tembisa Secondary School, 27 October. The event is the culmination of a joint initiative between the Department of Education, Fundi and youth development NGO, Primestars, with the collective efforts raising a whopping R100 000.
12-for-12 is 12-hour relay race which uses the magic number as a symbol of the number of years it would ideally take to finish school. This was paired with the Primestars initiative, #SavingTheClassOf2020, which helps to create awareness of the unique obstacles that this year’s matrics have had to overcome.
At a glitzy gala event, the Sandton-based NGO collected their giant cheque, as Mala Suriah of Fundi presented Managing Director Martin Sweet and General Manager Nkosinathi Moshoana with the money raised to support the matrics as they write their exams. No class of matrics has endured what the Class of 2020 have had to, so every little bit will help in the fight for their education.
