As the 16 Days of Activism against the abuse of woman and children draw to a close, Matla A Bana, a NGO founded by ex-hostage Monique Strydom can only hope that more South Africans will stand up and fight against the abuse of children.
Courtesy of Carrot & Coconut Deli and Filadelfia SDA church who mobilised their women and members of their local community to pack comfort packs, Matla A Bana Gauteng received another 40 of the small comfort packs for girls aged five to eight years who are victims of violence and abuse.

According to Lizel van Eeden who is the Project Manager for Matla A Bana, the packs will be distributed to Tshwane East Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
“Thank you, Filadelfia SDA church, your donation ensures dignity, comfort and hope to a little girl who really needs it,” said Lizel.
International Human Rights Day, as observed every year on 10 December, commemorates the day the General Assembly of the UN adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home – so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world …
“Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere.
“Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
