Local friendly dentist ‘hangs up his drill’

“Allow Maxine and I to thank you for your loyal support over the last 25 years. Many of you have become more like friends than patients,” said Derik.

After more than two decades of protecting numerous teeth from cavities, brightening smiles and maintaining healthy gums in the community, Radiokop’s prominent dentist, Doctor Derik Jordaan has called time on his career.

“I have been practising as a dentist in Radiokop for the last 25 years. The rather sudden onset of illness has forced me to ’hang up my drill’,” said the friendly tooth doctor.

In 1976, Derik qualified as a dentist from the University of the Witwatersrand. Prior to opening his surgery at the Honeydew Junction Shopping Centre, he worked at another practice.

With his wife, Maxine always in his corner, the family-orientated practice operated successfully – warmly welcoming many with dental problems.

“Allow Maxine and I to thank you for your loyal support over the last 25 years. Many of you have become more like friends than patients,” said Derik.

Over the many years and countless appointments, the doc could not single out any particular special moments but was rather proud to have afforded many patients the joy of a perfect smile.
To avoid leaving his local patients hanging and having to travel far for dental check-ups, Derik said that as of next month, the practice will be under new ownership.

“My practice will be taken over by Dr O Moolman, a highly respected and friendly dentist who will commence practicing on 2 February. My receptionist, Rachel Papo, whom most of you know, will remain to ensure continuity. Also, the contact details and premises which had Salonika Beauty Salon run by Bernie Sequeirã will remain the same,” he detailed.

As most retirees usually venture into other interests, Derik opted to focus on his well-being, but also indicated that he plans to travel a bit post the Covid-19 distress.
