IQ ends off 2020 with a massive donation
As their final donation for the year, the school hoped to brighten the Christmas of the residents and staff at Residentia Ons Huis Old Age Home.
The Institute for Quality (IQ), a high school located on Goldman Street in Florida, became widely known for its charitable efforts in 2020.
As their final donation for the year, the school hoped to brighten the Christmas of the residents and staff at Residentia Ons Huis Old Age Home. The school collected and distributed 50 food parcels to the old age home as part of their goal to promote community outreaches and teach their learners the importance of helping others.
On 1 December, Marita van den Berg, the manager of Ons Huis, went to the school to collect the donations and was overwhelmed by what she saw – 50 red buckets filled with food, ready for her to take to the old age home. Marita thanked the school’s staff members profusely and repeatedly, saying that the old age home is extremely grateful for the help and donations the school provided.
“The heart of our school is service,” said Deputy Principal Prince Mpofu. “We felt the effects of the current economic climate so we strive to assist those who are most vulnerable,” he continued.
The donations for the parcels were collected from teachers, staff members and their families, and they hope to continue to help people and organisations throughout the West Rand; specifically the Roodepoort branch of Child Welfare South Africa, which is an organisation very close to the heart of IQ’s Principal, Ravi Govender.
