ICF leaders against bullying remember the late Lufuno

“We asked the leaders to share what they have been doing to honour her memory and eradicate bullying in their own spaces."

The leaders against bullying have written reply letters to the late Lufuno Mavhunga’s letter that she left behind before taking her life due to bullying last year in April.

Tuesday, April 12 marked the one-year anniversary of 15-year-old Lufuno’s death.

In her final words, Lufuno was broken, hurt and had no hope of resting in peace.

Ipeleng Cares Foundation (ICF) asked the leaders against bullying to write reply letters to Lufuno’s letter.

“We asked the leaders to share what they have been doing to honour her memory and eradicate bullying in their own spaces.

“The objective of this exercise is also to give Lufuno closure that her cries did not fall on deaf ears, and that someone is doing something to address bullying in schools and to stand for those who cannot stand for themselves,” said founder of the ICF, Ipeleng Mofokeng.

Quotes from the leaders’ letters:

• Sincerely Oratilwe, 14

“Dear Lufuno, I am truly sorry about what happened to you, it was not right what she did and I wish I would have been there to at least try and stop that. But it is in the past and it hurts to know you were the victim.”

• Tsebo, 12

“I wish you had lived longer for me to meet you. I think we would have been good friends. Lufuno, you were a girl that suffered from bullying, now that I am a leader against bullying I will make sure that people or children don’t endure the same fate.”

• Gian, 14

“Dear Lufuno, it must have been hard having to go through all of that pain and suffering and having to be embarrassed like that in front of everyone, but I just want to let you know that that was not the end of it, that your memory will live on forever, and that at Ipeleng Cares Foundation we’re doing everything to honour you.

“You are a wonderful person and may your soul rest in peace.”

• Karabo (Mentor), 16

“Dear Lufuno, I pray that where you are, you are resting, you are at peace and happy.”

• Tayson, 14

“RIP to Lufuno, I hope you are resting in peace. I wish you were in the leaders against bullying so you could have gotten the help you needed.”

• Thuto, 14

“Dear Lufuno, I know what you went through was a horrible experience; they bullied you, insulted you and humiliated you in front of everyone. You shine like a star and should keep shining. Don’t let anyone burn out your shine. We don’t know each other but by the looks of it, you look like an amazing person, you’ll never be forgotten and just because you are gone doesn’t mean your light no longer shines. That light will shine on for years and years.”

• Sharneez, 12

“Dear Lufuno, we love you, the Ipeleng Cares Foundation is doing very well and helping us to control the bullying and wish you were here to join the leaders against bullying.”
