Teacher stabbed at school

A teacher at Hoërskool Die Burger was stabbed at the school by a learner.

Hoërskool Die Burger is once again the centre of controversy as news emerged yesterday (April 9) of another teacher having been attacked by a learner.

The Roodepoort Record received a tip-off from a concerned community member indicating that a teacher was assaulted by a learner at the school.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear, and the condition of the teacher is also unknown.

The Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed the incident, adding that the teacher was attended to by medical personnel before being rushed to hospital for further treatment.

“The police and the parents of the learner were immediately informed, and the child was taken into custody upon the police’s arrival,” Mabona said.

He said the department’s psycho-social support team was dispatched to the school to provide the necessary support to learners and staff.

“We strongly condemn any acts of misconduct which seek to undermine the dignity of our learning institutions, and we urge schools to strictly enforce their codes of conduct to deal with disciplinary matters.

“We also appeal to parents for their assistance to enforce discipline in and outside the school environment.”
