Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital launches advanced Trauma Programme
This programme is supported by the appointment of two new trauma surgeons and a collaboration with ROCKET Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Air Rescue South Africa. For their community, this means faster, expert care when every second counts.
Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital is proud to announce the next step in its commitment to you, which is the recent launch of a comprehensive Trauma Programme.
What this means for you, our community
• Expert trauma care right on your doorstep: Their two newly appointed trauma surgeons are Level 1 experienced and trained to manage polytrauma and complex injuries 24/7. From road accidents to major trauma, you now have specialist surgical expertise available at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.
• ROCKET Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Air Rescue South Africa, bringing the hospital to you: Time is critical in trauma. Our collaboration with Rocket EMS enables us to rapidly transport P1 and polytrauma patients from across the region directly to our hospital. This dramatically reduces transfer times and connects you to definitive care faster.
• A seamless system of care: From the scene to the helicopter, to our theatre, your care is now co-ordinated by a dedicated trauma team focused on saving lives and improving outcomes.
This launch forms part of Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital’s ongoing journey of improvement. They remain dedicated to raising the standard of care for the communities they serve. This commitment has recently been recognised with the Discovery Health Care Rating Certificate and with Life Healthcare naming Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital of the Year and Emergency Unit of the Year for 2025 at the Life Achiever Awards.
